The 16th annual Estonian Artists’ Association exhibition will open at the Tallinn Art Hall, Tallinn Art Hall Gallery and Tallinn City Gallery. The exhibition, which includes works by 169 artists, will be called the “Spring Exhibition” for the fifth time.
On Friday, May 13th at 6 p.m., the 16th annual Estonian Artists’ Association exhibition will open at the Tallinn Art Hall, Tallinn Art Hall Gallery and Tallinn City Gallery. For the fifth year, its name – Spring Exhibition – is derived from the inevitable repetition of the seasons. And this year, it will introduce works from 169 artists. For the first time in the history of the annual exhibitions, a jury did not make the selection from the works submitted for the exhibition, but rather all the submitted works are included.
The Artists’ Association spring exhibition is a manifestation of diversity, a place where various artistic egos, spiritual attitudes, and visual handwriting meet. At the same time, the spring exhibition is a kind of “art competition”, which allows the participants to take a measure of each other. The traditional spring exhibition is definitely a bridge connecting a large number of artists and the broader public of art and culture lovers, but it is also a bridge between creators of very different ages. The questions that transcend generations and the reciprocal communications of the artists are some of the most interesting aspects of this exhibition. Without aspiring to be an all-encompassing survey, the salon-type spring exhibition presents a spirited and diverse extract of the art being produced in Estonia today. The three whales carrying the weight of this exhibition are painting, graphic art and sculpture.
At the Art Hall, one can see an association between artists who would probably never meet at curatorial or group exhibitions. For the artists themselves, the joint exhibition definitely provides a sporting juxtaposing and kind of competitiveness; for the viewers, it provides something for the heart and the eye, as well as food for thought and discussion, an opportunity for profoundly personal interpretations and a search for broader meanings.
Themed exhibition at the Art Hall Gallery and City Gallery comprise part of the Spring Exhibition. The selection for the Art Hall Gallery, with the title Women Amongst Themselves was made by Tamara Luuk. The artists participating in The Ordinary Exotic, an exhibition focused on everyday and imperceptible nuances at the City Gallery, was compiled by Anneli Porri.
The Spring Exhibition will be open at the Tallinn Art Hall and Art Hall Gallery until June 19th and at the Tallinn City Gallery until June 12th.
